The Massachusetts Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) is a federally funded program to help Massachusetts homeowners impacted by COVID-19. After June 30, 2023, Mass HAF will no longer accept new applications. MAHA will not be assisting with NEW applications for the HAF program after June 30, 2023. Submitting an application to the Massachusetts Homeowner Assistance Fund does not guarantee payment. All applications are subject to the availability of funds and eligibility review. Assistance is not guaranteed.

The Massachusetts Homeowner Assistance Fund – Mass HAF – is now available to homeowners that are at least 3 months behind on their mortgage payments because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Mass HAF is a state program that provides mortgage relief - it is a grant not a loan; homeowners do not have to pay it back. If your application is approved, funds are provided to your mortgage servicer (the company that collects your mortgage payments).  For more information, review this HAF flyer (available in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian, and Khmer)
Who is Eligible for Mass HAF?
Check if you’re eligible for Mass HAF by completing a short online pre-screening questionnaire.

You may be eligible for Mass HAF if you:

  • Own AND live in live in a single-family home, condominium or 2- 3- or 4-family home located in Massachusetts
  • Lost income or your living expenses went up on or after January 21, 2020, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • You have missed at least 3 mortgage payments since January 21, 2020.  
  • You meet income requirements (150% of the Area Median Income)

To apply, go to massmortgagehelp.org  You will need to register for an account using your email address. The application is available in multiple languages.
