BOSTON, MA – On Wednesday, October 20, 2021, the Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance (MAHA) and the Madison Park Development Corporation hosted mayoral hopefuls Annissa Essaibi George and Michelle Wu at a virtual forum on making access to homeownership more equitable in Boston. Members of both organizations shared their stories and asked the candidates to commit to the most critical steps the new mayor can take to shrink the city's racial homeownership and wealth gaps.
Apirl 30, 2021 - Last night, MAHA held its 13th annual Taste of Dorchester and for the second consecutive year it was a lively online event. Taste of Dorchester celebrates our local restaurant community and one highlight of the event was interviews with owners Teresa Maynard of Sweet Teez Bakery and Tambo Barrow of Bred Gourmet. Staff and board members ordered takeout from Dorchester restaurants including Irie Jamaican, Bred, Blarney Stone, Family Affair, 50 Kitchen, El Barrio and more.
It was an engaging 75 minutes with a couple of great conversations with Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley and City Councilor Annissa Essaibi-George and demonstrations from Ice Creamsmith, Family Affair Restaurant & Catering, Irie Jamaican Style Restaurant and Boston Harbor Distillery.
MAHA raised $12,149 to be split between our programs and a Dorchester restaurant relief fund. If you missed it (or were shut out because of our technical problems) you can watch the fun and figure out which Dorchester restaurant you want to try next.
When you turnout over 900 people in the middle of July, people talk. Here is what they are saying...
"We need to do more." - Mayor Marty Walsh
"Great job as usual MAHA" - Massachusetts Housing Partnership
"Powerful turnout tonight for MAHA" - Councilor Annissa Essaibi-George
"Truly massive turnout" - Noah, aide to Councilor Kim Janey
Starting on July 10th in Mattapan, MAHA will team up with the Eta Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity to sponsor a class for first-time homebuyers. The class consists of four sessions starting at 6pm on the evenings of July 10, 12, 17, and 19. All sessions will be ABCD Family Service Center at 535 River Street in Mattapan.
