STASH Program Manager Position

MAHA was established in 1985 and is dedicated to increasing affordable homeownership, breaking down barriers for first-time and first-generation homebuyers, and closing the racial homeownership gap in Massachusetts. We offer homebuyer and homeowner classes and we currently have more than 40,000 graduates. MAHA has been instrumental in creating both the MHP One and ONE+ Boston mortgages in Massachusetts to ensure that low to moderate-income homebuyers are able to obtain affordable options.

In 2019, MAHA started the Saving Towards Affordable Sustainable Homeownership (STASH First-Gen Home) program, a first-generation matched savings program aimed at helping first generation homebuyers save towards the purchase of their first home. STASH was the premier first-generation homebuyer program in the country and has the opportunity to lead the nation in closing the racial homeownership and wealth gap by helping low-income families achieve their goal of homeownership. Participants must first complete a Financial Education portion, in addition to one-on-one coaching. Second, participants must reach their savings goal. For every dollar a client saves, they will receive an additional 10:1 or 20:1. STASH participants must save a minimum of $2,000 of their own funds and receive a matched grant up to $40,000 towards down payment or closing costs to purchase their first home. The match amount does vary based on the geographical location of the home that is being purchased. STASH has successfully assisted 100 participants buy their first home! We are eager to help more participants in 2024 learn personal finance skills on their journey to becoming a homeowner!

The Position: The Program Manager is responsible for strategic management and day-to-day operations of STASH, delivery of financial education classes and financial coaching sessions, client support, and account management. We are seeking a Program Manager passionate and experienced in teaching, counseling or supporting groups of individuals in a program setting. We are looking for candidates who can help with expanding the program design and reaching program goals. The ideal candidate will be innovative, detail oriented, data-driven, capable of working independently, entrepreneurial spirit and be passionate about housing equity.

Job Responsibilities: 50% - Administrative and Data Reporting

  1. Teach STASH financial education seminars via Zoom and in-person
  2. Compile financial education training materials for classes and coaching onsite and offsite.
  3. Enter critical client data into CIVICRM, ShareFile, MPactPro and other database system(s) to generate surveys designed to track graduates and evaluate our education and counseling efforts.
  4. Work with the program director to develop and present program presentation and materials to STASH participants and stakeholders.
  5. Generate, review and distribute month-end reports to STASH management and partner organizations.
  6. Respond to participants’ inquiries via e-mail or phone and provide information related to their savings accounts.
  7. Review client applications for program eligibility and follow up with clients regarding missing documentation; prepare enrollment packets for accepted clients; contact program clients regarding matched savings account compliance; work directly with case management staff at partner agencies.
  8. Work with STASH staff to develop and distribute outreach and marketing materials for STASH program, including providing descriptions and distributing materials to target outreach populations.
  9. Represent Matched Savings Program and MAHA both virtually and im-person at local events
  10. Oversee and manage the Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) which are matched savings accounts that allow individuals and families to save towards their goal of homeownership and generate money for a specific savings goal. Maintain organized records of the match savings accounts and transactions for program participants.
  11. Work with housing agencies and other stakeholders cooperatively to deliver the program including offering additional online, hybrid or in-person classes.
  12. Raise awareness of grassroots community organizing and affordable housing issues.

50% - Counseling

  1. Provide one-to-one counseling for participants.
  2. Conduct quarterly outreach calls to program participants and graduates, to get updates on their homebuying journey and understand what levels of support are needed from program staff.
  3. Connect enrolled participants to MAHA’s additional post-purchase classes, organizing activities and community events related to homeownership.
  4. Fully participate with MAHA staff and members in organization-wide activities and grassroots fundraising efforts, including specific duties related to our annual Taste of Dorchester event.
  5. Other duties as designated by program director.

Requirements:

  1. Passion for helping people and motivating them through financial challenges.
  2. Passion for motivating, teaching, and facilitating workshops on financial literacy.
  3. Previous experience in coaching or counseling role (preferred).
  4. Ability and experience in working with different types of people and personalities.
  5. Data-driven approach
  6. Strong interpersonal and communication skill
  7. Excellent communication skills. Comfortable speaking in large groups of 10+ and running focus groups.
  8. Excellent writing skills, ability to write memos and newsletters
  9. Ability and willingness to work regular evening and some weekends.
  10. Fluent in Haitian Creole, Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese or Portuguese (plus)
  11. Experience working in Mortgage Lending, Banking, Finances, Social Work, Paralegal or Customer Relations (plus)
  12. Previous experience with client management systems (preferred)
  13. HUD Housing Counseling Certificate (Required to pass exam within 6 months of hire)
  14. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel & PowerPoint) and Outlook 365
  15. Knowledge of Salesforce or CIVI CRM Data Management Systems (plus)

Qualifications:

  • Must have relevant field or a minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in decision-making and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Expertise in using technology to record and share information, and streamline operations.
  • Have strong presentation skills.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary Range- $57,000 - $62,000
  • Employer pays 90% of health care and 50% dental
  • 3 weeks paid vacation a year PLUS an additional week off during Christmas break

MAHA's office is located in Dorchester, this is an on-site position requiring working in the office. Possibility to work hybrid in the future.
