MAHA Announces Eastern Bank’s Increased Participation In State’s Most Affordable Mortgage Plan

BOSTON – February 16, 2022 – Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance (MAHA) today announced a 500 loan commitment over a five-year period from Eastern Bank that that will more than double its lending in the Massachusetts Housing Partnership’s ONE Mortgage program. Eastern has been a long-time participant in the program, and MAHA has successfully reached 23,600 low and moderate homebuyers with 60% of those being persons of color through the overall program. Eastern’s goal will be to fund at least 100 ONE Mortgage loans each year from 2021-2025.

December 9, 2021 - Dorchester, MA - Just a little over three years ago, MAHA celebrated its 30,000 graduate from its first-time homebuyer and homeowner education classes. This month, after a period of unprecedented growth combined with a pandemic that forced innovations in the delivery of the classes, MAHA is announcing that it has surpassed the 40,000 graduate mark.

We thank the Legislature for passing a bill that invests over $600 million from the Commonwealth’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Fiscal Recovery Funds into affordable housing. This funding will have a real impact on people’s lives by allowing us to quickly produce new affordable homes. We urge Governor Baker to sign this bill into law and put Massachusetts on a path to making homes more affordable and closing our racial homeownership gap.

MAHA Statement on Funding for First-Generation Homebuyers in the Build Back Better Act Framework

Dorchester, MA — Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance (MAHA) incoming executive director Symone Crawford issued the following statement today after President Biden and Congressional leaders released the framework for the Build Back Better Act, which includes significant funding for affordable housing, including a first-generation down payment assistance program inspired by MAHA’s STASH matched savings program for first-gen homebuyers.

Members of both organizations shared their stories and asked the candidates to commit to the most critical steps the new mayor can take to shrink the city's racial homeownership and wealth gaps.
