STASH Registration - PHASE 1

We are now accepting applications for the May 2023 Cohort. We will begin reviewing applications in the coming months.
WELCOME
Saving Towards Affordable Sustainable Homeownership (STASH) is a matched savings program for first-generation first-time homebuyers in Massachusetts. This two-year program focuses on financial literacy topics that are essential to the homebuying journey. STASH equips graduates with confidence, knowledge, and resources to make informed choices about buying their first home. A cohort of participants is led through 12 seminar topics ranging from - SMART goal setting for homeownership, establishing good saving habits, building a budget, managing credit, consumer rights, estate planning and more – all of which are essential to preparing for the home buying process and sustaining homeownership. The program is fast-paced, ideal for clients who are looking to buy quickly and are mortgage ready.
In addition to attending one-hour seminars twice a month, participants receive an Independent Development Savings (IDA) account with a local bank where they will make consistent monthly deposits until they have reached their savings goal of $2,000 for the duration of the program. Participants who complete all program requirements and close on a home in the City of Boston will receive up to a $20,000 grant.
STASH graduates will walk away with an idea of which documents to get ready and will know what to expect during the mortgage application and closing process. STASH graduates can use the match total towards pre-purchase costs such as down payment assistance, home inspection fees, real estate attorney, and closing costs, or use the funds post-purchase to cover moving costs, new appliances, or new home repairs. These funds are stackable with other grants, first-time homebuyer loan products offered by Massachusetts Housing Partnership ONE or ONE+ Boston, MassHousing mortgage products and many others, if eligible.
Note: You cannot have an offer on a home accepted or a home under a purchase and sale agreement when applying to the program or plan to secure a home before completing the minimum program requirements. The program is designed in a manner that allows participants to complete the program in as little as four months or a maximum of three years, depending on the applicant's own stage in the homebuying process.
